Hello from the Dominican Republic!

March 18, 2010

Luperon, Dominican Republic

It is about 9 pm, and I must be operating on autopilot.  We left Sand Cay in the Turks and Caicos yesterday afternoon at about 3:30, after a FULL couple of days cruising hard.  The passage was more sailing (and lumpier) than anticipated, but we arrived (Calypso, Osprey, and Kaya) here at 8 am.

By 11:30 we were checked in and in search of that really, really cold Presidente.  By 2:30 we were (really operating in a fog) heading back to dinghies for long-awaited naps.

Nobody had any energy for rum tasting or mahi-mahi eating tonight.  Whether we will tomorrow after a day-long trip to the waterfalls remains to be seen!

I will post details, and pictures, as soon as I get some sleep.

Oh – just a quick note for anyone contemplating the trip – if you love sea glass, DO NOT MISS Sand Cay.  Period.  And yesterday’s “full day” of cruising started with tropicbirds whirling around the boat, progressed to “Thar she blows!” as we watched humpbacks breach and blow, and was topped off by finding turtle tracks and her nest on the beach.  Any questions as to why we do this?

  1. And in other news, a strange yellow orb appeared in the New England skies yesterday. Townspeople gossip it may be something known in the Caribbean as sun but we are, for now, not convinced.

  2. Mom says:

Glad you made the crossing safely. Looking forward to seeing more photos.xxxxooooo
